Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Chuzz collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.
Last updated: 10 August 20261. Who we are
Chuzz is a mobile application for discovering restaurants. It is operated by OFIR JACOBY LTD, a private company registered in Israel under company number 516495066, with a registered address at Zamer Hana 1, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel.
In this policy, "Chuzz", "we", "us" and "our" mean that company. "You" means anyone who uses the Chuzz app or this website. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
If you want to reach us about anything in this policy, see section 12.
2. What we collect
We collect the following categories of data.
Data you give us
- Account details — your name, username, email address and, if you choose to provide one, a profile photo.
- Preferences — the filters you set: areas, cuisines, dietary requirements, atmosphere, who you're dining with, and time preferences.
- Content you create — likes, favourites, follows, comments and anything you send us in a message or form.
- Contact details — your phone number, if you give it to us for WhatsApp updates or support.
Data collected automatically
- Location — approximate or precise location, if you grant permission, so we can show restaurants near you. You can refuse this and still use the app by choosing an area manually.
- Usage data — which restaurants you view, how long you watch a video, what you tap. We use this to order the feed.
- Device and technical data — device model, operating system version, app version, language, and an app-generated identifier.
- Log data — IP address, timestamps and error reports.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your contacts, your photo library, your microphone, your payment card details, or any special-category data such as health or religious belief. Dietary filters you set (for example "vegan" or "gluten free") are treated as food preferences, not health data, and are used only to filter restaurants.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Running your account and the app | Account details, content | Performance of a contract |
| Showing restaurants near you | Location, preferences | Consent (you grant the permission) |
| Ordering and improving the feed | Usage data | Legitimate interests — making the product useful |
| Replying to your messages | Contact details, message content | Legitimate interests / your request |
| Sending WhatsApp updates | Phone number, area preference | Consent — see section 4 |
| Keeping the service secure and preventing abuse | Log data, device data | Legitimate interests / legal obligation |
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already happened.
4. WhatsApp messaging
If you opt in, we send you updates on WhatsApp. This is entirely optional and separate from having a Chuzz account.
- We only message numbers that have actively opted in through our website or app, or that have messaged us first on WhatsApp.
- We store your number, the area you asked about, and a record of when and how you consented.
- We send up to four messages a month.
- You can stop at any time by replying STOP, by emailing us, or by blocking the number in WhatsApp.
- We never sell, rent or share your phone number with advertisers.
WhatsApp is operated by Meta Platforms, Inc. When you message us there, your message passes through Meta's systems and is subject to WhatsApp's own privacy policy as well as this one. Full details of what we send are on our WhatsApp updates page.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers who run parts of the service for us — hosting, crash reporting, analytics, email and messaging delivery. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
- Restaurants — only in aggregate. A venue can see how many people viewed or saved its page, not who they are. If you publicly comment or follow, that activity is visible as it would be on any social feed.
- Legal and safety — where we are required by law, court order or a regulator, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety.
- Business transfer — if the company is sold or merges, data may transfer to the buyer under the same protections.
6. International transfers
We are based in Israel. Some of our service providers are located elsewhere, including in the European Economic Area and the United States. Where data leaves Israel or the EEA, we rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data — for as long as your account is open, then deleted or anonymised within 30 days of a deletion request.
- Usage data — up to 24 months, after which it is aggregated so it no longer identifies you.
- WhatsApp consent records — kept for as long as you are opted in, and for up to 3 years afterwards so we can prove consent was given and withdrawn.
- Support messages — up to 24 months.
8. Your rights
Under Israel's Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981, and — if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom — under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted (see section 9);
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent you previously gave;
- receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format;
- complain to a supervisory authority — in Israel, the Privacy Protection Authority.
To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in section 12. We respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity first, so that we don't hand your data to someone else.
9. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your Chuzz account and the personal data attached to it at any time.
- In the app — open Profile → Settings → Delete account and confirm.
- By email — write to us from the address on your account and ask for deletion.
Once confirmed, we delete your profile, likes, favourites, follows, comments and preferences within 30 days. Some data is kept longer where the law requires it, or in backups that are overwritten on a rolling basis within 90 days. Aggregated statistics that can no longer identify you may be retained.
If you only opted in to WhatsApp updates and never created an account, reply STOP to any message or email us, and we will remove your number.
10. Cookies and this website
This website is deliberately light. It sets no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking cookies.
- We store your language choice (English or Hebrew) in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. This never leaves your device.
- We load a web font from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers and they receive your IP address. If you would rather avoid that, the site remains fully usable with fonts blocked.
- Our host may keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
If we ever add analytics or advertising, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
11. Security and children
We use encryption in transit, access controls and regular updates to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your rights we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Chuzz is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Contact and changes
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy go to OFIR JACOBY LTD, Zamer Hana 1, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel — or use the details on our contact page.
We update this policy when the way we handle data changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
A note on this document. This policy describes our actual practices in plain language. It is not legal advice, and it should be reviewed by a qualified Israeli privacy lawyer before you rely on it for regulatory filings.
